Let’s Talk About The Weather

A question I am often asked by homeowners is, “When is the best time of year to paint the exterior of my home?”

As someone who has been painting residential and commercial properties for over thirty years throughout the Inland Empire, Los Angeles and Orange Counties, I can honestly say painting the exterior of a home can be done just about any month of the year.

You might say I picked the right location to be a painting contractor. That’s because the greater SoCal area is typically blessed with good weather year-round.

As a rule of thumb, the best temperature to paint is when the surface temperature is between 35 to 98 degrees Fahrenheit, with an ideal painting temperature range of 50 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. As long as there is no rain in the forecast, Arnold Fields Painting has your painting needs covered.

But there still are certain weather factors to keep in mind to make sure that the paint cures — or fully hardens — properly. If it doesn’t do that, you might be repainting your home’s exterior sooner than you planned, and we at Arnold Fields Painting want your paint job to last as long as possible.

For instance, there can be big fluctuations in temperature from day to night. Even with perfect painting temperatures during the day, sometimes we have a sudden drop in temperature after the sun goes down. Thanks to modern advancements in paint materials, most paint manufacturers now offer paints that can be applied to the exterior of your home in temperatures as low as the threshold of 35 degrees. On these rare occasions, Arnold Fields Painting makes sure to choose the right paint for the conditions.

Another factor to consider, especially in the Inland Empire, is the wind. Windy conditions can blow debris into your paint and also lead to uneven drying. The best wind speed for painting is anything under 8 mph — which is basically a gentle breeze.

And what about those days when the hot California sun is beating down on us? When the temperatures are high, the paint could potentially dry too quickly, leaving you with a less-than-optimal finish.

When intense heat is in the forecast, Arnold Fields Painting starts work earlier in the morning. We paint in strategic sections, starting on the shady west side of your home. As the sun passes over, our crew works on the east and north side to avoid working in the direct sun while applying the paint. Working in this fashion, we get the optimal finish on your property.

Here’s one more thing to remember: painting adds substantial value to your home. In other words, if you keep up on the appearance of your home, there will be no need for costly repairs in the future. Arnold Fields Painting can provide the necessary services to keep your home in top-notch shape for many years to come.

Show Your Home Some Love

3 Easy Tips For Spring Home Rejuvenation

1. INSPECT

Your house kept you warm and dry this winter. Now as the weather heats up, it’s a great time to give your house some love in return and give it a good going over. Put on your home inspector glasses and take a walk around your house. Give it a thorough inspection from top to bottom and take note of any potential problem areas.

2. DETECT

You’re looking for peeling, flaking or spidery cracks on the surface as well as water stains or blisters in the paint. Wood rot is a common issue for homeowners in Southern California. Seasonal rains combined with our sunshine can damage woodwork and create a breeding ground for termites.

3. PROTECT

Sealing and painting your exterior goes a long way to maintaining the integrity and visual appeal of your home. Maybe all you need is some simple caulking and touch-up painting. Or, perhaps it might be time for a new paint job. Remember, Arnold Fields Painting only uses 100% acrylic paint which is the toughest, most durable protection for your house.

FACT: A new paint job will increasethe value and curb appeal of your home. Extend the life of your investment.

A Testimonial

Hello friends!

Several months ago Teresa and I decided to start some renovations on our home after finding some dry rotten pieces of wood. I did an inspection from top to bottom and found that we also needed a couple of roof tiles replaced. After having the roofing work done and after replacing the couple of pieces of dry rotten wood, we hired Arnold Fields Painting to paint our house.

I have been a contractor in the City of Rancho Cucamonga for many years and have done business with Arnold Fields many times over the years. He has always come through, and when he said he would be there he was always there on time. Arnold has been a licensed contractor since 1990 and has painted my home several times during that period.

Arnold always does a better job than expected, and leaves the property better than before he started. His crew is absolutely amazing, They are highly trained professionals with many years experience.

Anyone can paint a house. What makes the difference is all the pre-paint preparation Arnold and his crew do. They started by pressure washing the entire house from top to bottom. They also went the extra step to dig out 6" around the house's foundation to complete stucco repairs below the water line. They scraped all the wood and sealed all gaps with caulking to prevent water leaking into the wood. The Arnold Fields' crew pretty much read my mind and did the work without me having to ever say a thing! And, once they were finished they left the project clean and better than it was before they started.

Teresa and I love the special care Arnold took helping us to choose the right colors. He has a color professional that my wife and I worked with. She took a "before" picture of the house, then produced several digital color renditions of what it would look like "after". All this before we even put any paint on the house! My wife and I really liked this feature because choosing a color is a big job in itself. With Arnold's color pro's help, the color came out just the way we wanted.

My wife and I are very happy with the work Arnold Fields Painting did on our home. I am not a sales person, so I do not benefit financially in any way by making this statement, Teresa and I are just very happy with the job Arnold Fields Painting did, and we want to share our positive experience with all our friends.

Best Wishes,
Adam & Teresa

THE HEAT IS ON!

Now is a Great Time to Have Arnold Fields Painting Power Wash Your House

After this year’s winter rain and with the summer heat around the corner, the exterior of your home is certainly facing the elements. This is a great time to consider giving your home a nice facelift with a thorough “power wash.”

Heat, humidity, pollution, dirt, grime, mold and mildew are all colluding to degrade and discolor the protective quality of your house’s paint job. Power washing your home’s exterior is a very economical way to stop the destruction of your home’s beauty.

It’s interesting to note that the National Association of Realtors estimates that a power washed house will increase in property value by $10,000 to $15,000. Talk about some great curb appeal! But, power washing is about more than just upholding the value of your property or maintaining the beauty of your home.

If the integrity of your paint job is compromised by dirt and grime, then the groundwork is set for permanent damage to set in. This means unsightly stains as well as mold and mildew growth which can pose potential health risks. A good power wash will not only remove dirt, cob webs, or insect nests, it can also reveal any cracks or weakened areas in the walls. A little touch up goes a long way to stop further damage.

The best approach is to fix the small things before they become large repair jobs. That’s why Arnold Fields Painting will examine every aspect of your home’s surface. Even patio decks might need a good power wash to remove any moss growth caused by the recent wet weather. We also replace caulking to ensure your wood is protected from termites or water intrusion.

BONUS TIP! Hey, it’s getting hot out there! Make sure to keep the interior cool by cleaning your air conditioning ducts and filters.

Color Matching at its Finest! Top Left: Laser level. Top Right: Rick Hicks. Bottom Left: Angled expanse of wall. Bottom Right: Straight expanse of wall.

As a parent, I would say one of life’s bittersweet moments is when your kids go off to college. My moment came three years ago when my baby girl went off to school in South Bend, Indiana. But at her send-off party, I had the pleasure of meeting a fellow father (and Notre Dame alumni), Rick Hicks. We got to know each other and, later on, I was afforded the opportunity to paint his house. We must have done a good job because Rick also recommended our services to his friends.

Rick is a partner in GoCart.com, an on-line grocery store located in Corona. (If you’re in the Corona area, you should give it a try as you can order your groceries online, and then fresh, high-quality products are delivered to your home in a very timely fashion.) And, when it came to painting his new  warehouse, Rick gave me a call again.

But this wasn’t the usual commercial property paint job. He wanted to paint the walls in bright colors that matched his logo and that angled upward, reflecting his company’s visual identity. As Rick said, “I wanted to create a nice environment for the employees and visitors to our facility.”

Getting the angled look meant using our laser levels to get it right. Another challenge we faced was keeping the look consistent around all the conduits and pipes. And, because the warehouse was still being prepared, we had to deal with the cold environment and make sure the paint took to the walls.

With our know-how and expertise, Arnold Fields Painting got the job done right. Just ask Rick!

Home Work for Spring Time

We all know the drill when spring is in the air: Time for cleaning, tending the garden, doing repairs around the house. It’s also a great time to consider painting the house.

Why spring? One reason is that exterior latex paint forms the toughest, most durable, protective finish when the weather is neither too cold, nor too hot. When your house is painted in moderate temperatures, odds are you will get a longer-lasting paint job.

Spring time is also the optimum time for those planning to make a move. If you’re looking to sell your house, a new coat of paint will help with the home’s curb appeal. So, a good looking paint job will increase your home’s value; it’s always a good investment.

Spring time is a good time to take inventory of your property. If you find peeling paint or spidery cracks on the surface, discover water stains or find the color fading, it’s time to consider painting. Remember that paint helps to protect your structure from the elements, and without this protective coating, construction materials begin to deteriorate rapidly.

It DOES Rain In Southern California!

Feb_InteriorOfficeDetails.jpg

Think of how much time we actually spend indoors. As my client Carolina Ruiz said, “I spend a great amount of time in my office. I want to feel like I’m on vacation.

She had just moved into her new office at Keller Williams Realty, West Covina. The walls were the typical office off-white. The perfect canvas for a refreshing new look.

We were able to get in and out quickly. In just a few hours, Carolina’s office was transformed with attractive new color on her walls and woodwork. Combine the new look with her great view of the San Gabriel Valley, and I believe Carolina will find her time spent at work to be more enjoyable.

In fact, she is so happy, we’ll be painting her home office in the coming months.

Home Work Projects: Painting Your Bathroom and Kitchen

Your laundry room, bathroom and kitchen have a lot in common! They are the rooms that require the most care since they are the rooms where running water and moisture come into play.

As a painter, I always find it interesting that something as vital as water can be so destructive. Ask anyone who has seen the water damage done by a crack in the caulking around a tub. The damage might not be readily apparent, but that small leak can cause major damage to the surrounding structure.

Think of the steam and hot water in your bathroom or the smoke and grease in your kitchen. All this finds its way onto your walls, and If you don't use the right paint, moisture will be absorbed into the drywall.

A warm and humid environment makes for a perfect breeding ground for mold and mildew. So trust me, it’s best to prevent moisture intrusion before it happens.

Additionally, we always meticulously prep  the painting surface and use the highest quality semi-gloss or high gloss paint to give you the needed moisture protection.

As I always tell my clients, painting is more than just an aesthetic improvement. The way I see it, Arnold Fields Painting is actually applying a moisture barrier to extend the life of your investment. If you have any questions, call Arnold Fields Painting.
